Annakodi Tamil Movie Review

Annakodi Tamil Movie Review

Veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja is the name that brought repute to Tamil cinema. The rustic tales from rural land the life in village were beautifully narrated by him in his films since 16 Vayathinilae. He also proved his mastery doing urban themes with Sigappu Rojakal.

After a intense thriller in his last Bommalattam, Bhatrathiraja is back with Annakodi. Again a rural theme. However according to him, it is based on a real-life incident.

Newcomer Lakshman Narayanan, Karthika Nair of Kho, Manoj Bharathiraja, Meenal among others play part of the movie. Music is by G V Prakash.

Story

Kodiveeran (Lakshmanan) , who rears gpoats is the son of a cobbler in a village. He comes across Annakodi, who hgails from a upper cast family. They fall for  each other.

When they decide to hold hands, there comes opposition from her parents. Caste is the reason. Meanwhile there is Sadayan (Manoj K Bharathi), a greedy money-lender who takes away girls from his debtors for the interest they have to pay. He falls for Annakodi.
Meanwhile Annakodi's parents foist a case and Kodiveeran lands in jail. Sequence of events result in Annakdoi's mother's death and she taken away by Sadayan. What Kodiveeran does to bring back joy in Annakodi's life is the climax.

Performance

Lakshmanan, though a newcomer, does play his part well. But he has improve his body language and dialogue delivery a lot.  Karthika is okay while Manoj K bharathy plays a baddie oozing venom in his eyes. Meenalk chips in with a decent performance

Analysis

Salai Sahadevan's camera captures the rural beauty well. Also G V Prakash's background score liven up the proceedings. But sadly a predictable storyline and some weak performance mars the show. Sadly Annakodi is no patch to Bharathiraja's earlier classics.

What begins a funny ride takes twists and turns and ends pedestrian. Prakashraj manages to sustain interest with his comical acts. Singamuthu plays his accomplice.

Balupu Movie Review

Balupu Film Review

Banner: PVP Cinema
Cast: Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan, Anjali, Prakash Raj, Ashutosh Rana, Adivi Sesh, Brahmanandam, Ali, Nasser, Srinivas Reddy, Tagubothu Ramesh and others
Music: Thaman
Editor: Gautham Raju
Cinematographer: Jayanan Vincent
Story, screenplay, direction: Gopichand Malineni
Producer: Param V Potluri

Story:

Ravi (Ravi Teja) works as a recovery agent in a bank and his father Mohan Rao (Prakash Raj) is bent upon seeing him married. But Ravi is always waiting for the right girl to get connected. Meanwhile, Shruti (Shruti Haasan) and her uncle Crazy Mohan (Brahmi) want to have some fun and they keep taking people for a ride with their tricks. Shruti is engaged and wants to have full fun before she gets married hence this act. One such encounter gets her to meet Ravi and eventually Shruti falls in love with him. But there is a past that Ravi and his father have. What is that past and how things take shape forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Ravi Teja as always delivers an energetic performance and with his typical style of dialogue delivery, Ravi Teja effortlessly engages the audiences. He dances with unmatched energy.

Shruti Haasan looks glamorous in the movie and she has pleasing screen presence. She sizzled in the songs and has proved that she can pull of glam doll roles well.

Anjali with an innocence in her role as a doctor managed to do the most impressive job. Her role is crucial part of the film and the song Ninnu Chusina was shot well.

Brahmanandam strikes equally and in fact he is an asset for the film. Crazy Mohan role in Balupu is one of his best in the recent times. Prakashraj plays his part earnestly while Adivi Sesh, Ashuthosh Rana leaves a lasting impact. Thagubothu Ramesh is okay but Ali’s comedy looked forced.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is a mixed bag. The songs have beautiful visuals but things are not so great when it comes to some of the talkie sequences. Screenplay is good during the first half but it is not upto the mark in the second half. Editing could have been better. Veligonda Srinivas’s dialogues work well and some of them have ‘double meanings’. These will work well in B and C Centers.

Thaman’s background score is effective. Gopichand Malineni has succeeded in showcasing Ravi Teja well. He scores good marks as a director with this movie. Production values are good.

Verdict :

With ‘Balupu’, we can perhaps say that Ravi Teja is back! His mass look and powerful punch dialogues work well. Shruti Haasan’s glamour and Brahmanandam’s comedy are major assets.
